Never Hold It! – Go Right Away

Never wait to go to the bathroom.

Did you know that holding your urine can and does stretch out your bladder?  Years of doing this, even on occasion can lead to adult urinary incontinence.

Why?

Your bladder is elastic, and when you fill it up and hold it, you are stretching it out and wearing out the elasticity.

Same thing if you have to go number 2.  When you hold it, you put pressure on your colon and can cause distention of the bowel (actually stretching it out).   This can lead to diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome.    It will also lead to future constipation because the bowel will be much wider and unable to move your fecal wastes along as well as it used.

Again, this leads to incontinence (fecal incontinence).

Now for the more serious matters:

Holding back bodily wastes have been linked to colon cancers and even bladder cancer.

Moral of the story:
When you have to go…  You have to go!
